More about Chris on this page: Machine Expert
1. What are MGB Air Knives (Air Wipes)?
They are industrial air wiping systems designed to blow high-velocity air onto extruded plastic strands or profiles for drying, cooling, and removing excess water and particles before cutting.
2. What materials are suitable for use with MGB Air Knives?
MGB Air Knives are ideal for extruded plastic materials such as strands and profiles, but they can also be used on other products requiring efficient drying or cleaning prior to further processing.
3. How do air wipes work?
Air wipes use a narrow, high-velocity sheet of air forced through a slit or circular opening (for 360° coverage) to remove moisture, particles, or contaminants from surfaces without physical contact.
4. What are the standard sizes available?
Standard widths available are 12″, 14″, and 18″. Custom sizes can also be made to fit specific production needs.
5. What blower and control features come standard?
MGB Air Knives come with a 5 hp blower, pre-wired starter control, and standard 208-230/460 V electrical configuration, plus a stainless steel drip tray.
6. Can the system be customized?
Yes—custom sizes and configurations are available upon request, so you can tailor the air knife to your exact production requirements.
7. What purposes can MGB Air Knives serve?
Typical uses include drying and cooling extruded plastic, removing excess water and particles, and preparing the extrudate for cutting or secondary processes.
8. Are there different types of air knives or air wipes?
Yes. In industry practice, there are straight air knives, circular air wipes, adjustable models, and ionizing (anti-static) versions for specific applications. The choice depends on the product and process needs.
9. Do MGB Air Knives help reduce energy costs?
Blower-powered air knives like MGB’s are generally more energy efficient than compressed air systems, which can reduce operating costs and noise while improving performance over time.
10. How do I choose the right air knife for my application?
Consider product width, line speed, desired airflow intensity, and the specific drying or cleaning goal. MGB can assist with sizing and configuration for your specific setup.
11. What maintenance is required for MGB Air Knives?
Air knives typically require minimal maintenance—but regular checks of the blower, filters, and mounting ensure long-term optimal performance (industry standard).
12. How long do air knife systems last?
With proper maintenance, air knife systems can last for many years in industrial settings, depending on usage and environment conditions (common industry experience).
