MGB 75 Ton Guillotines

The MGB Guillotine is designed for the size reduction of bulky plastic, allowing it to be processed by granulators, shredders and densifiers. Materials which can be processed include bales or rolls of film, hard scrap, pipe, buckets, drums and even lumps or purging drool. Plastic is placed on a table, then a heavy duty knife mounted horizontally is driven by a hydraulic cylinder to cut the objects.

The two up-rights of the machine are made of 8" x 8" x 1/2" thick structural tubing reinforced by 1" x 6" plates on the inside where the knife holder rides. The cross members (where the cylinder is mounted) are made of 18" ship channel having
3/4" x 3" vertical ribs and boxed in with 3/8" plate. The cutting dimensions are 36" high by 48" wide.

It is powered by an 8" hydraulic cylinder and a 40 HP hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is tucked underneath the work table of the machine. The machine has heavy guards, guarding the blade. The Hydraulic Cylinder is electrically operated by two push buttons connected so that the operator must keep both hands on the buttons while the blade is moving down.

The overall dimensions are approximately 14 feet high to the top of the hydraulic cylinder, approximately 6 feet wide and approximately 6 feet long.

1. What types of plastic can the MGB Guillotine cut?
Typically it can handle bulky plastics including film rolls, bales, hard scrap, pipe, buckets, drums, and other large plastic items that need to be pre-cut before granulation or shredding.
2. How does the guillotine actually work?
The machine uses a hydraulic blade driven by a cylinder to cut material on a stationary table — this down-stroke cut reduces large items into manageable pieces.
3. What size objects can it cut?
Ask about the maximum cutting dimensions — many models like the MGB are rated for specific heights and widths (e.g., 36″ high by 48″ wide — check your spec sheet).
4. What power and hydraulic specifications does the machine require?
Customers often want to know motor size, hydraulic pump specs (e.g., 40 HP pump on some models), voltage requirements, and whether special electrical hookups are needed.
5. What safety features are included?
Hydraulic guillotines must have safety guards, two-handed controls, and other protections — make sure to ask what protections the MGB includes and what additional PPE or guards are recommended. (Generic industrial guillotine FAQ practice)
6. What maintenance is required?
Blade sharpening or replacement, hydraulic fluid checks, and routine inspection of structural components are common maintenance points to ask about.
7. How often will the blade need to be replaced?
Depends on material hardness and usage — harder plastics will blunt blades faster, so ask for expected service life of the blade. (Based on general guillotine machine FAQs)
8. Is installation or commissioning included?
Check whether delivery, installation, and setup are included or quoted separately, especially for large industrial machinery. (Typical FAQ for large guillotines)
9. What warranty coverage is provided?
Ask about warranty duration, what parts are covered, and what maintenance actions might void the warranty. (Common equipment FAQ)
10. Can the guillotine handle rigid vs. flexible plastics equally?
Clarify capabilities for different materials — softer film plastics vs. rigid PVC or HDPE — and whether any tooling or blade changes are needed.
11. What throughput can be expected?
Customers often want estimates of how many pieces or pounds per hour can be processed, although this may vary based on material and operation. (Derived from size reduction FAQ practices)
12. Are spare parts and service available?
Ask about lead times for replacement parts, service support, and whether service contracts or training are offered. (Common industrial machine FAQs)
