MGB Screen ChangerThe MGB Screen Changer is the flagship of the MGB Engineering line of new extruder plastic processing equipment. We offer a complete line of two position slide plate hydraulic extruder screen changers in sizes of 3.5”, 4.5”, 6” and 8”.
MGB Extruder Screen Changers are constructed in one-piece, have a high tensile strength ductile iron casting, are precision machined to exceed industry standard and to accept standard precision internal components. The body is arranged for one to three heating zones depending on size. Our units can be mounted either vertically or horizontally. We offer an optional MGB Hydraulic Power Pack for all screen changer sizes. It consists of a hydraulic pump, accumulator tank, oil reservoir tank, valve and gauge, all as a unitized package to ensure quick screen changes with minimal flow loss. Note: Support cart available upon request MADE IN THE USA |

1. What is the MGB Screen Changer and what does it do?
The MGB Screen Changer is a two-position slide plate hydraulic extruder screen changer used in plastic processing to filter contaminants out of the melt stream before it reaches the die, improving product quality and protecting downstream tooling.
2. What sizes are available?
It is available in multiple sizes, including 3.5”, 4.5”, 6” and 8” options to fit different extruder capacities.
3. What materials is it constructed from?
The body of the unit is a one-piece, high tensile strength ductile iron casting, precision machined to exceed industry standards and accept standard internal components.
4. Can the screen changer be mounted vertically or horizontally?
Yes — the unit is designed to be mounted either vertically or horizontally depending on your line configuration.
5. What is a heating zone and do these units have them?
Depending on the size, the screen changer body can be arranged for one to three heating zones, which help maintain proper melt temperature through the filtration process.
6. Does MGB offer hydraulic power units for the screen changers?
Yes — an optional hydraulic power pack is available. This unit includes the pump, accumulator tank, oil reservoir, valve and gauge as a package to ensure fast screen changes with minimal flow loss.
7. What type of screen change mechanism does it use?
The MGB units use a slide-plate hydraulic design, allowing operators to quickly shift in a fresh screen without stopping the extruder.
8. Is support equipment available?
A support cart for the screen changer is available upon request to facilitate handling and maintenance.
9. What are the advantages of using a screen changer in plastic extrusion?
Screen changers remove contaminants from the melt stream, which improves the quality of the finished product, reduces die wear, and lowers scrap levels in extrusion operations.
10. Can MGB repair or rebuild existing screen changers?
Yes — MGB Engineering offers screen changer repair and rebuild services to restore worn or leaking units for a fraction of the cost of new replacements.
11. Is this screen changer made in the USA?
Yes — the MGB Screen Changer is manufactured in the United States.
12. How do I choose the right size and configuration?
Choosing the correct size and configuration depends on your extruder throughput, polymer type, and filtration requirements — contact MGB for engineering support and sizing assistance.
